Hi readers! I’m sorry I’m a bit late with this post. Today I want to post two good news items. I’m planning to include one or more good news posts per month from here on out alongside my regular posts. I’m a passionate advocate of good news and believe that it should be a part of anyone’s media diet. I also think that good news has the power to change the world (even if only a little bit) and help readers be happier, more hopeful people. So here are two self written reports on recent good news stories.
ROCK STAR FIGHTS CHILD ABUSE
Aerosmith front man Steven Tyler is helping victims of child abuse to find recovery through his foundation ‘Janie’s Fund’. According the program’s website, Janie’s Fund provides housing, counseling and medical services to girls who have suffered abuse. Two locations are up and running, one in Atlanta, Georgia and another just outside Memphis, Tennessee the website reports. The program, founded in 2015 is named for the Aerosmith song ‘Janie’s Got A Gun’, which tells the story of an abused young woman. Tyler stated in Rolling Stone that he began the program because he wanted to help give voice to the voiceless and ensure that victims had the support and care they needed to go on and lead happy, healthy lives.
BASKETBALL LEGEND SELLS TROPHY’S TO HELP UNDERPRIVILEGED KIDS
LA Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar doesn’t want his game memorabilia, MVP trophy’s or championship rings anymore. He decided that selling them and donating the money to charity was better. The Good News Network reported that the star auctioned several of his championship rings, his famous goggles, signed basketballs and other items. The money raised from this will go the Sky Hook foundation, which provides kids with help in pursuing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) educations. The LA Times newspaper noted that the auctions, which recently ended pulled in nearly three million dollars for 234 items offered.
